Christmas events at Bunratty Castle in 2026
Bunratty Castle & Folk Park has several separate festive experiences, so check exactly what is included in your chosen ticket before booking. These are the main events announced for Christmas 2026.
Santa’s Grotto Experience
Santa returns to his grotto on the Village Street from 27 November to 23 December. The experience also includes access to Bunratty in Lights, along with festive activities around the Folk Park such as the Polar Express, the Tunnel of Lights, shows, stories and Christmas characters.
Bunratty in Lights
The Folk Park is transformed with lights across its 26 acres. Visitors can walk through the illuminated village, take the Bunratty Polar Express, meet festive characters and enjoy seasonal entertainment along the way.
This ticket does not include a visit to Santa’s Grotto, so families hoping to meet Santa should choose the Grotto Experience instead.
Santa’s Festive Breakfast
For an earlier start, Santa’s Festive Breakfast takes place in the Corn Barn Restaurant. Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves join families for breakfast, entertainment and plenty of festive cheer. Spaces are limited, so advance booking is important.
Christmas at the Castle Show
This evening experience pairs a four-course festive banquet with a Christmas performance by the Bunratty Castle singers. It is an atmospheric option for couples, families with older children, groups of friends or anyone planning a festive night out rather than a Santa visit.
Where to eat near Bunratty Castle at Christmas
Durty Nelly’s is located right beside Bunratty Castle, making it an easy place to stop for food before or after your festive experience. Families are welcome, walk-ins are accepted and booking ahead is recommended for busy December dates.
You can keep things relaxed with food from the regular
Durty Nelly’s menus,
or turn the visit into a proper occasion with a festive lunch or dinner.
How to plan your Christmas day out in Bunratty
Your Castle experience will have a booked arrival time, so plan the rest of the day around that slot and leave a little breathing room. Christmas traffic and excited small people rarely run precisely to schedule.
Before your Castle visit
Arrive in Bunratty with enough time to get settled without rushing. If your experience is later in the day, book an early meal at Durty Nelly’s first. For an earlier Castle slot, plan your table for afterwards.
Enjoy your booked experience
Follow the arrival instructions supplied with your ticket. Grotto visitors should allow time to explore the wider Folk Park experience rather than treating the Santa visit as the only part of the day.
Warm up beside the castle
After the lights, shows and walking around the Folk Park, cross over to Durty Nelly’s for food, hot drinks or something festive. Booking a table gives you a comfortable finish to the day, particularly on December weekends.
Tips for visiting Bunratty at Christmas
Book the main experience first
Popular Santa and evening slots can sell out. Secure your Bunratty Castle booking first, then arrange your meal around the confirmed time.
Dress for an outdoor visit
Much of the Folk Park experience involves walking outside. Warm layers, weatherproof coats and comfortable footwear will make the visit far more enjoyable.
Allow more time than you think
The lights, village buildings and entertainment are part of the experience. Avoid squeezing the visit between other commitments if you want to enjoy it properly.
Ask about sensory support
Bunratty Castle & Folk Park asks families who need additional support to contact its reservations team in advance. See the
official Christmas information
before booking.
